Donate, Share, Fundraise, and Ride for Step Up Parents!

On Friday, December 13th, for the fourth year in a row, Step Up Parents will ride for a cause during LizFit's Spinning Generosity! Spinning Generosity is a seven-day indoor cycling fundraiser where riders, donors, and sponsors raise money for seven local nonprofit organizations.

This year, we've increased our fundraising goal to $25,000. We need riders and donors to help us make this happen.

Hero Spotlight

Joanna and Kevin are raising their 13-year-old grandson, whose biological parents have a long history of substance misuse. Joanna was recently laid off from her full-time job and needed some assistance staying current with household bills while she looks for another job.

Thanks to our generous supporters, Step Up Parents was able to contribute $500 towards the family’s electric bill.

NH Children’s Trust Family NOW Podcast Highlights Kinship Care

In “The Kinship Episode” of New Hampshire Children's Trust's NH Family NOW Podcast, co-hosts Jasmine Torres Allen and Nathan Fink discuss Kinship Caregiver Month and the amazing, sometimes arduous, often complex nature of raising the children of others. Throughout the episode, they are joined by real Granite State kinship caregivers, Kinship Navigators Alicia Angove and Diana Merrick, and Dr. Cassie Yackley, licensed psychologist and Director of the Center for Trauma Responsive Practice Change and the NH Child-Parent Psychotherapy Provider Network.

Fall in New England is a special time. Children head back to school, days get shorter, temperatures drop, and plans are made for upcoming holiday celebrations. It can also be a very challenging time for kinship caregivers as they try and meet their family’s day-to-day needs and make the holidays happy for children who have experienced tremendous trauma.

When relatives are called to take in young family members affected by parental substance use disorder, it comes with significant financial responsibilities. Oftentimes, these individuals are on a fixed income, and the additional costs are totally unplanned.

Kinship caregivers throughout New Hampshire and Southern Maine count on Step Up Parents to help cover the increased cost of housing, home heating fuel, electricity, food, warm clothing for growing children, school supplies, sports and clubs fees, and making sure their vehicle is safe to drive during winter months.

Last year, Step Up Parents provided more than $100,000 in financial assistance to nearly 200 kinship families. We are filled with gratitude for our generous friends in the community who make this possible.

Support services for kinship caregivers—who don’t receive the same level of government support as non-relative caregivers—is more critical than ever before.The cost of living in New Hampshire and Maine continues to rise. Only 13% of two-bedroom apartments in the State of New Hampshire are designated as affordable. Step Up Parents provides a critical safety net for kinship families in need of a helping hand.

During this season of gratitude, we want to thank everyone who supports Step Up Parents. It is heartwarming to know we can rely on this amazing group of community validators, advocates, kinship families, and donors to help spread the word and fund the work we do. With your help, Step Up Parents continues to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of kinship families affected by substance use disorder throughout New Hampshire and Southern Maine.
